The challenge that made the most impression on me and the one I thought the most about was challenge 5. In this challenge there was a lot of focus on identity and our values. I think this is very important to have in mind when you teach, and especially if you end up teaching in a different country. To me it is very important to always remember who you are, no matter what you do and where you are in the world.
In this challenge we had to make a pie chart, which showed how much different things meant to us. To my family and friends is the most important thing, so they got the biggest piece. The 2nd biggest thing in the pie chart is work/study and. My work and study is something that means a lot to me, because I love what I do, and it is something that defines who I am.
In this challenge we also had to make a cv. This was very fun to do, and I haven’t tried to do this before, so it was a very good exercise.
Another challenge that got me thinking was challenge 3. This challenge was about culture shock and how to become open minded. This was something that I could really relate to, since I have experienced it. I remember when I went to Vietnam 5 years ago and it was a big shock to me because everything was so different. I have also lived in Switzerland for 6 months and this was also very different then what I was used to, but in a more familiar way, if you can say that. The Swiss people are very polite and very conservative. When you go grocery shopping the cashier says hello to you. The funny thing was that I really had to remember NOT to do that when I got back home. I don’t think the Danish cashier would have understood Swiss German anyway.
